Snails (birth name Frédérik Durand) was born in Montreal (Quebec, Canada) in 1988 and is a DJ and music producer. While his musical style can be broadly classified as Electronic Dance Music a.k.a. EDM (a broad range of percussive electronic music genres - generally produced for playback by DJs who create seamless selections of tracks, called a mix, by segueing from one recording to another - made largely for nightclubs, raves, and festivals), it's best described as a blend of dubstep (a genre of electronic dance music that originated in England and features overwhelming bass lines, reverberant drum patterns, clipped samples, and occasional vocals), drum and bass (a subgenre of electronic music often characterized by fast breakbeats - typically between 160–180 beats per minute - with heavy bass and sub bass lines, sampled sources, and synthesizers), and trap (a subgenre of Southern hip hop that originated in the 1990s and is characterized by ominous lyrics, heavy kick drums from a Roland TR 808 synthesizer, double time division hi hats, and layered synthesizers). He's performed at many major events such as Electric Daisy Carnival, Decadence Music Festival, Ultra Music Festival, Electric Forest, Coachella, and Lollapalooza.
