Flogging Molly, California’s sensational Celtic punk artists are bringing their signature sounds to the Hollywood Palladium!
Flogging Molly was formed in San Diego in 2008 and currently consists of Dave King (lead vocals, acoustic guitar, and bodhran), Bridget Regan (violin, tin whistle, and backing/lead vocals), Dennis Casey (guitar and vocals), Matt Hensley (accordion, concertina, and vocals), Nathen Maxwell (bass guitar and vocals), Bob Schmidt (mandolin, banjo, and vocals), and Mike Alonso (drums and percussion). The band is named after the bar (named Molly Malone’s) that supported them during their early days. According to Dave, “We used to play there every Monday night and we felt like we were flogging it to death, so we called the band Flogging Molly." Their musical style is best described as a blend of punk rock (a rock music genre - developed in the early to mid-1970s in the United States – that typically uses short or fast paced songs, with hard edged melodies and singing styles, stripped-down instrumentation, and often political, anti establishment lyrics) and Celtic (a broad grouping of music genres that evolved out of the folk music traditions of the Celtic people of Western Europe). They cite The Dubliners, The Pogues, Horslips, Johnny Cash, and The Clash as their main influences and their lyrics are usually about Ireland and its history, drinking, poverty, politics, love, and death. They’ve had a stellar career with 3 live albums, 1 extended plays, 5 studio albums, 8 music videos, and 15 singles.
